The diverse range of colors and particle sizes found in tattoos makes their removal a formidable challenge. Ink particles come in countless formulations and sizes, and tattoos come in many different colors. In order to treat them effectively, multiple wavelengths must be utilized to target specific colors at various depths and specific pulse durations to address the ink density and size. Thanks to the revolutionary technological advancements of the Enlighten system, the de-inking process is fast, safe, and effective.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR TATTOO REMOVAL?

At MD Coté Medica Spa in Maple Valley, we can work with just about any adult who wants to have an unwanted tattoo removed. Most people are good candidates for laser tattoo removal, though research suggests that people with lighter skin may achieve results more quickly. Extraordinary care must be taken when performing treatment on darker skin tones to avoid unwanted changes in skin pigment. Tattoo pigment removal requires a strong immune system, as well, so it is advantageous to take good care of your physical health as you prepare to undergo laser tattoo removal. The process may also be more efficient if you do not smoke or can refrain from the habit during the course of your treatment.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT LIKE?

When you think of getting a laser treatment, you might think of light and heat. In many instances, lasers work by heating some of the layers of the skin. Not the Enlighten™ laser! This tattoo removal treatment works by delivering an acoustic soundwave through the skin. This soundwave breaks apart the pigment so the body can naturally process it through the lymph system. This is still a laser treatment, though. So, while you might not feel any buildup of heat in the targeted tissue, you can expect to feel a snapping sensation against your skin with each ultra-fast pulse of energy.

HOW MANY TATTOO REMOVAL TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The Enlighten™ laser tattoo removal device is designed to work as quickly and painlessly as possible. It combines Pico and Nano technology, which, together, are more effective at breaking down unwanted pigment in the upper layers of the skin. Unlike older tattoo removal lasers, the Enlighten™ platform can achieve satisfying results in three to six treatments. We schedule these about six weeks apart.

WILL I SEE RESULTS AFTER ONE ENLIGHTEN TATTOO REMOVAL SESSION?

Getting a tattoo removed is unlike getting a tattoo. The process takes longer. For the tattoo to lighten and fade away, the laser must break up the pigment particles into tiny fragments. From that point, it takes the body approximately six weeks to eliminate the unwanted pigment. So while you might see some results after just one to two sessions, it won’t be right away.

WILL TATTOO REMOVAL LEAVE A SCAR?

Laser removal works completely differently than older models of tattoo removal. Before the development of laser devices for tattoo removal, this process was performed using dermabrasion. Derm (skin) abrasion (think sandpaper). Using that technique, there was a relatively significant risk of scarring. Laser technology passes through the skin rather than “rubbing” it off. Using the combination of Pico and Nano laser technology, our tattoo removal treatment may leave a very light ghost of previous tattoo ink but it’s highly unlikely to cause any scarring.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS LASER TATTOO REMOVAL?

Enlighten™ laser tattoo removal is extremely effective. It can be used to remove old tattoos or new ones. It works on a wide range of pigments and skin tones and types. While the process may take longer in certain situations, we tend to see very good results in the vast majority of patients. We want you to have realistic expectations for your laser tattoo removal treatment. During your consultation, we’ll spend time evaluating your skin, your ink, and the size of your tattoo. This initial evaluation will provide us with the information we need to discuss our anticipated results.
